2008 new and redesigned fullsize SUVs

Looking for an all-new full-size SUV in 2008? Here's a brief overview of all the full-size SUVs that have been redesigned or are brand-new models to the market in 2008. Some of the highlights include the redesigned Infiniti QX56 and the brand-new Lexus LX 570.

Redesigned for 2008
List prices: Starting at $55,510

Since its 2002 introduction, incremental improvements have failed to make the first-generation Hummer H2's interior meet consumer expectations. For the 2008 model year, a restyled H2 remedies that with a high-quality interior befitting a model of its price. The seats are new, and the H2 SUV includes a full third row that seats two people, in place of the single seat offered on previous models. The H2 SUT (sport utility truck) still has an open pickup-truck bed with a folding midgate that extends the 2.9-foot-long cargo floor into the cabin, to a 6-foot maximum. Powertrain changes are claimed to update the truck functionally, and minor cosmetic enhancements will set it apart from the 6-year-old first-generation H2.

List prices: $52,150-$55,250

The Infiniti QX56 full-size SUV has received modest exterior styling changes and a new interior for the 2008 model year, though its V-8 powertrain remains essentially unchanged. It hits dealerships this spring.

The only readily visible difference between the front end of a 2007 QX56 and the new 2008 model is in the grille. Whereas the 2007 model has flat horizontal chrome bars, the 2008 model gets notched ones, and there are new chrome pegs between them.

New for 2008
List prices: Starting at $73,800

Replacing the Lexus LX 470 full-size SUV is the eight-seat 2008 LX 570. It's the most refined and feature-packed model yet, as you might expect, but holds no big surprises. Lexus markets the truck as the ultimate combination of comfort and utility, but it's possible that's just a ploy to justify having a luxury SUV that's still truck-based.

Porsche Cayenne

The revised 2008 Porsche Cayenne has different front and rear styling and a new range of larger engines that feature direct-injection technology and make more power while using less fuel.

The Cayenne can also have the new Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control active suspension system that allows the SUV to corner with less body roll.
