Fiat 500 coming to America next year
Fiat has officially announced its retro-styled 500 hatchback will be coming to North America in about 18 months. The car will be sold through Chrysler dealers nationwide and will be the only Fiat-badged vehicle sold in the U.S. The company didn't give a sales prediction, but the Italian automaker is likely eyeing a goal of at least 40,000 units a year, just under the volume of BMW's Mini brand. While Fiat will supply Chrysler with the underpinnings of six vehicles, each will be Chrysler-badged and wear sheet metal unique to the brand.

Indian auto company eyes the U.S. market
Indian auto maker Mahindra says it plans to start sending two- and four-door versions of a 30 mpg diesel truck -- called simply the Pik-Up in India (right) -- to the U.S. by year-end. The second act is to come next year with imports of a version of the Scorpio, a tall and boxy SUV, modified for American tastes and standards. In the U.S., Mahindra's presence has been limited to building and selling tractors and farm equipment. The company also sponsors a NASCAR team and a championship bull-riding series.
