BMW 1 Series

BMW hasn't offered a four-cylinder model in the U.S. since 1999, but it will bring back the smaller engines to meet tightening government emission regulations. BMW did not say which models will get the engines, however the 1-Series (right) and 3-Series cars seem likely.

Ford says that its future electric cars will "talk" to power grids, letting owners program their cars to recharge at off-peak times or when wind, solar or renewable energy is driving the grid. Ford worked with about a dozen utility companies as well as the Department of Energy on the design of the system.
