Fisker loans
Fisker Automotive, a California manufacturer of luxury electric vehicles, will receive more than $500 million in federal loans to develop a new plug-in hybrid vehicle to be built in the U.S. and finish development on its plug-in hybrid sports car, the Karma (right). The Karma is expected to be released in the summer of 2010 with a sticker price of nearly $90,000.
Daimler debuts
Daimler unveiled a number of new electric and hybrid cars at last month's Frankfurt Auto Show, including the Mercedes-Benz Vision S 500 plug-in hybrid, a spinoff of the S 400 Hybrid, and the B-Class F-Cell. Daimler said it will also develop a high-performance electric sports car, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (right).

And when you are bankrupt, I'd like my $500 million back, please.

It is a shame that they are using the funding to develop care that only a handful of consumers can use and not a car for the general population.

Happy to see the funding going out, and yes, it is my tax money as well.
As I am here in Afghanistan watching millions of dollars in equipment come in every day, I know these car developers will spend their money at least as wisely as any of the dollars that have been spent by our government to send hardware to the middle east to "fight terrorism."
Heck, a couple years of contracting here, and I'll be able to afford one of those Karma 4-doors.
