Museum exhibition examines parking structures; Land Rover to rerelease a classic

Parking structures as works of art
Think a parking garage is just a utilitarian space? Think again. The National Building Museum in Washington D.C. last month opened an exhibition devoted entirely to the subject of parking structure architecture and social history. The "House of Cars" exhibition looks at the highs and lows of design and proves that parking structures needn't be ugly -- that they were once more routinely beautiful and integrated into the urban fabric, and that even today they can be architecturally daring if architects are allowed to explore the poetry of the structure. The exhibition runs through July 11, 2010.

Defender

Land Rover readies a classic for rerelease
Land Rover has confirmed it's readying a replacement for its rugged and well-loved SUV, the Defender. The iconic off-road brand stopped selling the Defender in the U.S. in 1997 due to a lack of mandatory air bags. The redesigned model will comply with safety and emissions regulations and will be more versatile and practical, the company says. Look for it to arrive in 2012 or 2013 with a new 5.0-liter V8.
