Redesigned Ram truck wins raves and government proposes stronger side air bags

Ram Heavy Duty

Chrysler

Motor Trend names Ram as top truck
The burly 2010 Ram Heavy Duty pickup was named Motor Trend's Truck of the Year last week. The Ram, previously known as the Dodge Ram, was extensively redesigned for 2010, getting an even larger big-rig face with a huge and more efficient front grille. It also received a much more refined interior and kept its brawn with a maximum towing capacity of 18,500 pounds. Ram became a stand-alone brand in Chrysler's recent restructuring.

Side Air Bags

Honda

Bigger, stronger side air bags proposed
A government proposal would require new cars and trucks to have larger and stronger side air bags to prevent motorists from being tossed out of vehicles during rollover crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the proposal, combined with anti-rollover technology, would attempt to reduce the more than 10,000 deaths in rollover crashes every year. The plan requires the auto industry to phase-in the new air bags beginning with the 2014 model year. All vehicles would need the air bags by the 2017 model year.
