Final Edition Beetle models debut
Volkswagen Beetle fans have one last chance to snag a current-generation model when the Final Edition line rolls into showrooms this spring. The Final Edition models, first shown at the L.A. Auto Show this month, include a coupe, which has blue paint and a black roof, and a convertible, which has a blue and white body with a white top. Only 1,500 of each model will be available, with pricing beginning at $20,240 for the coupe and $27,170 for the convertible. The next-generation Beetle is to arrive in the U.S. in 2011 as a 2012 model.

Chrysler launches politically active ad
In a bold move aimed at getting people talking, Chrysler has launched a new ad for its flagship 300 sedan (right) that includes political activism not characteristic in automotive advertising. The 30-second spot ties the brand to a worldwide human rights campaign to free imprisoned Burmese democracy advocate Aung San Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi was elected prime minister of Burma (now Myanmar) in 1990 but a military junta prevented her from taking office and has kept her under house arrest for 14 of the past 20 years. She won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize. Fiat's Lancia brand has run a version of the ad in Europe.
