Will this be China's year to enter U.S?
For the second year, Chinese company BYD promised at the Detroit auto show that it will bring an all-electric sedan to the U.S. within 12 months. BYD says it will use partnerships to establish a dealer network in the U.S. to sell and service its electric e6 in 2010, but locations and other details haven't been finalized. The five-seat e6 (right) runs on BYD's Fe battery, which it claims offers an unusually long range of 205 miles per charge. No price has been given but the company says it will be comparable to similarly sized gasoline-engine cars.

Group aims to curb distracted driving
The Transportation Department and safety advocates on Tuesday announced the creation of FocusDriven, an organization dedicated to raising American public awareness about the dangers of driving while talking or texting on cell phones. The organization will be modeled after Mother Against Drunk Drivers, which has successfully lobbied for tougher drunk driving laws. Safety advocates are pushing states to do the same thing for texting and cell phone use.
