Toyota and Acura plan hybrids for 2011; Toyota's may get 60 miles per gallon

Toyota iQ

Scion hybrid
Toyota plans to introduce an electric-hybrid version of the tiny Scion iQ in 2011, aiming to create a vehicle that achieves 60 mpg for less than $20,000. Its 1.5-liter gas engine and electric motor would put out between 100 and 120 horsepower, and it would come first as a four-door hatchback.

Honda updates
Honda's chief executive Takanobu Ito says the company's Acura brand will add hybrid models to its lineup. Honda also remains committed to hydrogen-fuel-cell development, and Ito says the Honda FCX Clarity hydrogen-fuel-cell electric vehicle (shown at right) "is ready now," but that the hydrogen-fueling infrastructure needs to expand.
