BMW's eco-supercar could hit the market by 2013; GM invests in its Ecotec engine

BMW is moving forward with an eco-supercar based on the Vision EfficientDynamics concept (shown at right) shown at the Frankfurt auto show last September. The sports car, whose two electric motors will offer 356 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, could hit the market as early as 2013.

General Motors recently unveiled one of its most substantial manufacturing investments since emerging from bankruptcy production, committing nearly a half billion dollars to production of the next generation of its Ecotec engine. The engines, expected to go into production in 2012, will have improved fuel efficiency and performance, the company says.
