Porsche hybrid goes up to 40 miles on pure electric; British loan for Ford

Porsche unveiled its first production hybrid, the Cayenne S Hybrid SUV, at the ongoing New York auto show. It has a combined power output of 380 horsepower from its V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, and it can go up to 40 miles on pure electric. It's slated to go on sale this fall.

British loan
The British government recently announced it would provide $550 million in loan guarantees for Ford's program to develop environmentally friendly technologies for engines and vehicles. The money, in part, will support the development of low carbon emission diesel and petrol engines. About a quarter of all Ford engines and more than half of its diesel engines are made in the United Kingdom.
