Auto X-Prize still a possibility for WWU
Western Washington University in Bellingham is one of only two universities in the U.S. still competing to win the $10 million Progressive Automotive X-Prize. The global competition is aimed at producing a 100-mpg production automobile. At each stage of the competition, some teams are eliminated. The competition had 110 teams a year ago. Western Washington's Vehicle Research Institute and Cornell University are the only two American universities among the 41 teams that will run a series of tests at Michigan International Speedway between April Monday and May 7 in Brooklyn, Mich.

Chrysler, NASA agree to share technology
Chrysler and NASA have agreed to share information on automotive technology and space exploration that each can use in its own work. Under the three-year agreement announced last week, the space agency and automaker will share information on technology that includes materials engineering, robotics, battery systems and radar. For example, Chrysler has used the shared research for work on surface navigation sensors. Chrysler has worked with NASA since the 1960s, when it built rockets for space missions.
