Leaf sellout
Nissan Leaf pre-orders have reached 19,000, meaning that the car is sold out for this year and that the company might stop taking reservations, says Nissan's chief executive, Carlos Ghosn. The company also broke ground last week on a Tennessee plant that will build batteries for the Leaf, and begin assembling them in 2012.

Green police
The New York Police Department is doubling the size of its hybrid-electric vehicle fleet this year by ordering about 150 Ford Fusion sedans and as many as 90 Ford Escape Hybrid tall wagons.
