More batteries
It makes batteries for laptops and cell phones, and soon Japanese electronics maker Toshiba will be supplying power for cars. The company plans to be making a million lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles a month by 2012 in a development deal with Mitsubishi.
Volt rollout
Texas, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will join the states where General Motors will roll out its electric car, the Chevrolet Volt, in 2011. The other test markets are Washington, D.C., California and Michigan. GM expects to run short of Volts (shown above) when the cars go on sale in November. The automaker plans to produce 10,000 Volts by the end of 2011 and an additional 30,000 in 2012 when it is available in all 50 states.
