Sources: GM considering line-up additions
General Motors is studying several possible additions to its vehicle lineup, including a new midsize pickup and a stretched version of its European minivan, according to three people familiar with the process. CEO Ed Whitacre wants GM's product staff to consider small, youth-oriented cars for Chevrolet and a large prestige sedan for Cadillac, as well as the minivan and midsize pickup, the sources say. For the minivan, the company is studying whether it can increase the size of its Opel Zafira van (shown above) sold in Europe. That model is built on the platform of GM's Chevrolet Cruze compact car.

Ford provides truck horsepower upgrades
Ford's 2011 heavy-duty pickups just came out in April, but already the company is boosting the power in their diesel engines and giving free upgrades to owners. Ford's F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks equipped with its 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbocharged diesel engine now get 390 horsepower. Reprogramming the trucks' software will increase that to 400 horsepower. General Motors' 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks came out in May with 397 horsepower.
