GM Ventures makes initial investment
General Motors' $100 million venture capital fund is considering more than 70 ideas for investments, ranging from auto startups to new vehicle technologies. GM Ventures LLC, formed in June, made its first investment this month: $5 million into an Indiana hybrid commercial truck, Bright Automotive. Investment proposals have also come from GM's powertrain, engineering, purchasing, and research and development arms around the world. For Bright, the money is aimed at helping speed production of the IDEA (shown above), a plug-in hybrid commercial vehicle expected to launch in 2013 or 2014.
