Solar raceway
Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania has the flipped the switch on a solar energy system that leaders say will make the NASCAR track the world's largest solar-powered sports facility. It's also the first track to run on solar energy. The $16 million, 25-acre installation is so large that it's visible from space.

Prius anniversary
The Toyota Prius is celebrating 10 years in North America this year. The top-selling hybrid was first sold in Japan in 1997, and hit U.S. shores three years later. Nearly 900,000 have been sold in the U.S. since then, and more than 1.8 million have been sold worldwide. A commercial Prius Plug-In Hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in 2012.

Hybrid spyder
Porsche has given the green light to series development of the Porsche 918 Spyder, a plug-in hybrid expected to get 94 mpg. The high-performance sports car first debuted as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March and quickly got hundreds of commitments from buyers. The company is also releasing hybrid version of the Cayenne and Panamera within the next year.
