Based on plates, WSU fans are strongest
The Huskies and Cougars start their runs for football domination tomorrow, but Washington State University has already won the race for license plate domination. This year, 12,992 WSU specialty plates have been registered to drivers in Washington state. University of Washington plates total less than half of that -- accounting for 6,084 plates this year. Gonzaga is third with 1,238. The state Department of Licensing offers specialty plates for all seven state universities. They cost up to $40 in addition to regular licensing fees.

Millions hitting the road this weekend
More Americans will get away for the Labor Day weekend this year, yet stick closer to home as they try to get the most for their money, AAA says. The auto club expects 34.4 million people to travel at least 50 miles from home between Sept. 2 and Sept. 6, up nearly 10 percent from 2009. About 91 percent will travel by car, 5 percent by plane and the rest by rail, bus or boat. The average round trip -- by air, car and other means -- is expected to be about 635 miles.
