Audi hybrids
Audi is planning to offer a hybrid variant in every one of its vehicles as the company takes advantage of parent Volkswagen's fuel-saving technology. The expansion would include every vehicle in the premium brand's lineup, from the A1 to the R8 (shown at right), and might mean electric-only variants of the A4 and A6. Audi's plans will be finalized within the next six months.

Wider range
General Motors now says its Chevrolet Volt electric car will go up to 50 miles on battery power -- 10 more than previously estimated -- depending on temperature, terrain and driving techniques. The company says the change was made because GM now has more experience driving the Volt.
