Anti-texting warning labels coming soon?
Coming to your cellphone: a cigarette-style warning label about the dangers of distracted driving? Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood offered the off-the-cuff suggestion last week, saying the mobile phone industry should consider putting warnings on new cellular devices. The cellphone industry reacted cautiously, saying it would meet with LaHood to discuss the idea, but emphasized that it discourages consumers from texting behind the wheel and urges them to use hands-free devices. LaHood said a warning could be given in writing, orally by cell phone sales staff or "right on the box, the way we put warning labels on cigarettes."
