Emissions standards for trucks planned
Future longhaul trucks, school buses and large pickup trucks will be required to cut fuel consumption and emissions by 10 to 20 percent under first-ever fuel efficiency plans for trucks released Monday by the Obama administration. The reductions in tailpipe emissions for medium- and heavy-duty trucks will begin being phased in with the 2014 model year. Large tractor-trailers would have until 2018 to reach a 20 percent reduction. The proposal is expected to be finalized next summer.
