Toyota has big plans for electric vehicles
Toyota announced last week it's planning to sell a Prius plug-in hybrid, an all-electric vehicle and an electric SUV in the U.S., Europe and Japan in 2012. The SUV would be made in collaboration with U.S. luxury electric carmaker Tesla. The automaker is targeting sales of 50,000 vehicles a year for its plug-in hybrid, which it plans to price at $36,000 before government incentives.

IndyCar to see wider array of engines
The business of supplying engines to IndyCar is starting to get crowded. Honda had been the sole provider of engines, but the racing league voted earlier this year to open its engine and chassis platforms up to competition. The changes were designed to cut costs while creating competition among the teams and, hopefully, more interest from the fans. Lotus and Chevrolet have already announced they will develop engines for the league for 2012.
