Car-care seminars, booklet aids women

"Knowledge is Power," a new ACDelco program for women, helps readers ask the right questions about vehicle maintenance. A free booklet can be downloaded from acdelco.com; enter Knowledge is Power in the Search field. ACDelco also is offering a "Knowledge is Power" seminar kit to more than 6,000 independent ACDelco-affiliated vehicle service facilities nationwide. Service centers that order the kit receive everything needed to host a car-care seminar for women. "These events are not designed to train women on do-it-yourself car repair," says Nancy McLean, director of ACDelco and wholesale marketing. "They're designed to empower them with the information they need to ask the right questions the next time their car needs maintenance or repair."

BMW sport utilities like the X6 are built at the company's Spartanburg, S.C., plant. (BMW)

BMW plant in U.S. a top SUV exporter

As demand for SUVs has grown in other countries, particularly in China and Russia, German carmaker BMW has expanded its Spartanburg, S.C., plant and turned it into an export hub, which has become the main source of BMW sport utilities sold around the world. Figures from the U.S. Commerce Department show that vehicle exports from South Carolina to countries beyond the U.S. totaled $4.4 billion in 2010, exceeding the value of exports from any other U.S. auto plant.
