Antique hybrid
Porsche has recreated what it calls the world's first functional hybrid-electric vehicle -- the Porsche Semper Vivus -- first created in 1900. Painstakingly built over the past four years, the Semper Vivus was unveiled at the March auto show in Geneva, Switzerland. It features a pair of in-wheel electric motors at the front, powered by lead-acid batteries recharged by a pair of combustion engines.

Clean cruze
The 2013 Chevy Cruze will be General Motors' first diesel-powered passenger sedan for the U.S. market since 1985. Its clean-diesel engine will be a modified version of GM's corporate 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that's already available in Europe and Australia.
