Yao Ming backs BMW at show in Shanghai
BMW got a little help from Chinese basketball star Yao Ming (pictured at right) to launch an electric concept car at the Shanghai auto show. The Houston Rockets center made a surprise appearance Tuesday at the German automaker's display as it unveiled a plug-in hybrid sedan based on the 5 Series. The car is set to go into production in 2013.

Jeep Grand Cherokee named a NW favorite
The Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) has named the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (pictured) the Northwest 2011 SUV of the Year, giving praise to its comfort and capability in all kinds of driving situations. Twenty-six journalists from throughout the Northwest drove and evaluated 20 different 2011 model year SUVs and crossover vehicles during a one-day competition recently in Snoqualmie. "We're especially pleased that the NWAPA's journalist members recognize Grand Cherokee's comfort and capability in all weather conditions, both on- and off-road," says Mike Manley, president and CEO of Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group.
