Next NYC taxis will be Nissan minivans
A boxy minivan made by Nissan will be the next iconic yellow cab in New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced last week. The NV200 features a panoramic overhead window that will give tourists a view of the city's skyscrapers, onboard outlets and charging stations, and GPS systems. The vans will be phased in beginning in 2013 as older taxis age out of service. The model is designed so that it could eventually be updated with an electric engine.

Ford Taurus gets a big, quick overhaul
Ford has significantly modified its big Taurus sedan, the brand's flagship, only three years into the model's life. The revised car (shown above) is due out early next year as a 2013 model, and the most dramatic feature is the speed at which Ford has changed the engine lineup, suspension, front and rear styling, power steering, brakes and trim. Automakers typically take four or five years, not three, for such an extensive update.
