Shopping bonus
Electric-car owners can "fill up" for free while they shop at The Outlet Shoppes at Burlington. The shopping center has installed chargers for electric vehicles. A charge is expected to take 2-4 hours, says Tom Hill, the mall's general manager.

Federal buy
The Obama administration is buying more than 100 Chevrolet Volts (shown) and other electric cars as it moves to improve the fuel efficiency of the government's auto fleet. The electric cars are expected to cut the government's gas usage by almost 29,000 gallons a year, saving taxpayers an estimated $116,000.
