Consumer Reports' picks for fuel sippers
Consumer Reports recently conducted real-world testing to determine the best new cars for fuel efficiency. The recommended models also had to meet the magazine's stringent requirements for performance, reliability, and safety. The top models:

Subcompact: Honda Fit, 30 mpg
Small wagon/hatchback: Volkswagen Golf TDI (diesel, manual), 38 mpg (shown)
Small sedan: Toyota Corolla LE, 32 mpg
Family car: Toyota Prius IV (hybrid), 44 mpg
Upscale/sports sedan: Lexus HS 250 h (hybrid), 31 mpg
Small SUV: Ford Escape Hybrid, 26 mpg

Free Ford event for local-music fans
Ford's Gimme the Gig II -- a free family event featuring live local band performances, food, karaoke, contests and more -- takes place this weekend at the First Avenue and Columbia Street parking garage. Local bands such as Perry Acker, Sap'n and The Royal Bear will perform. There will also be an enchanted-forest-themed test-drive track featuring the Ford Focus. The event is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
