Plug-free charge
A charging system called Plugless Power wants to lose the cords needed to re-boost your electric car. How it works: A vehicle parks above a floor-mounted parking pad, and induction technology recharges it as quickly as plug-in methods. The first Plugless Power charging station was installed as a trial at Google headquarters in California in March.

Volt expansion
General Motors has opened up orders for the Chevrolet Volt to all 50 states, has lowered the base price and has added four option packages. The 2012 Volt will start at $39,995. GM will also increase production of the electric car from 16,000 units a year to 60,000 after it reconfigures its Detroit-area factory this summer.
