Diesel cruzing
The Chevrolet Cruze (2011 model shown) will get around 50 mpg when a diesel version is introduced in 2013. That mileage will rival gas-electric hybrids. Though a price hasn't been set, the diesel is expected to cost more than a standard Cruze, which starts at $16,525.

Jumbo hybrid
After a seven-year absence, the Toyota truck unit Hino will return to the U.S. market in December with the release of the hybrid 155h. The seven- to nine-ton diesel-electric cab-over-engine commercial truck is part of Hino's goal to quadruple global light-duty truck sales to 140,000 units a year by 2015.
