Ford to boost fonts, expand new seat belts
Ford plans to use larger and bolder fonts for the text on many of its interior vehicle controls in order to make the characters easier to read. Starting next year, Ford will use fonts up to 40 percent larger, beginning with its Edge and Explorer SUVs and then moving on to other models. The automaker will also offer inflatable rear seat belts in more of its vehicles starting next summer. Ford was the first in the industry to offer the belts, which are now available on the 2011 Explorer. The company plans to offer them on the Flex, a seven-passenger wagon, and two Lincoln vehicles.

Kia's new pitchman is a slam-dunk
A leap to the hoop over a car has led to a slam-dunk of another sort for NBA rookie of the year Blake Griffin: He's being named the pitchman for Kia Motors. Griffin, a power forward for the Los Angeles Clippers, won the NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest by jumping over a Kia Optima sedan. A teammate fed him the ball through the car's open sunroof.
