Ford endorses ban on phone use in cars
Ford has come out in support of congressional legislation that would institute a nationwide ban on motorists using hand-held cellphones and other mobile devices while driving. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., introduced the Safe Drivers Act of 2011 on June 23. The proposed legislation would direct the Department of Transportation to set a national standard prohibiting such use of mobile devices, except in certain emergencies. Ford is the first automaker to publicly support the bill.

VW strategy paying off with record sales
Sales of Volkswagen vehicles, ranging from VW-brand cars to Bentley limousines, rose 14.6 percent in the first five months of 2011 to a record 3.4 million. VW sales climbed even faster in the U.S., its big new target market. VW's U.S. sales are up 18.5 percent so far this year, bolstered by strong demand for its new affordable VW Jetta compact. The German automaker redesigned and repriced the Jetta and midsize Passat to compete directly against the best sellers in those segments. As part of a plan to become the industry leader, the company aims to boost its U.S. VW-brand sales to 800,000 by 2018 and its group wide sales to 1 million.

Local Ford dealership featured in national ad campaign
If you're thinking the dealership in the new Ford commercials looks familiar, you may be right. Lakewood Ford was selected as the location for the company's most recent national ad campaign shoot in June. The dealership was built in 2007 with a modern exterior and upscale interior -- features that lead to its selection. The ads, featuring the Fusion and Escape, are on the air now.
