Leaf leading Volt in sales; will raise price
Nissan is charging ahead in electric vehicle sales, selling 4,134 of its battery-powered Leafs so far this year. Chevrolet, by comparison, has sold 2,745 of its Volt car, an extended-range plug-in hybrid. Leaf sales are helped by a lower cost -- a sticker price starting at $33,630 compared with the Volt's $41,000. However, Nissan is raising the base price of the 2012 model-year Leaf to $35,200. The company says that's due to added standard features, including a battery warmer, heated steering wheel and front and rear heated seats. The company also will include a fast-charging port if customers opt for the SL trim level, which starts at $37,250.
