Car show to double as toy donation site
On Sunday, Pacific Raceways will turn into a huge toy-collection site as car clubs and enthusiasts participate in the Northwest Toy Run 2011. Admission to the car show is an unopened toy or a $5 donation. All toys and cash collected will go to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Last year, the Toy Run collected enough toys to fill a 27-foot trailer, as well as more than $3,500 in cash. There are no affiliation or car age requirements to participate in the show. The event starts at noon at the Kent raceway.

Design challenge winner scales walls
Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Germany won the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show Design Challenge, which focused on designing Hollywood's next hot movie car. The Mercedes team's Smart 341 Parkour vehicle is a futuristic car with three different modes — a typical drive mode, a fly mode that allows the vehicle to hover far above the streets and a climb mode that allows the vehicle to run up the walls of skyscrapers. The annual competition is a chance to display creativity and explore new ideas in vehicle design.
