Highway work
The first fast-charging station in the Washington's "Electric Highway" is being installed at the Sehome Village Shopping Center in Bellingham. The remainder of the electric-car charging stations will be up and running by March, the state DOT says. The Electic Highway is part of the West Coast Green Highway, which will provide charging stations along I-5 from Canada to Mexico.

Tax credit ends
A tax credit that allowed Americans to deduct 30 percent of the cost of electric-car chargers installed in their garages, up to $1,000, has expired. The chargers cut the time to juice up a vehicle by about half and can cost more than $2,000, including installation. Proponents are pressing Congress to reinstate the credit retroactively. A $7,500 tax credit for buying new electric vehicles remains in place.
