Fisker preps for new car line; Ford to debut 1-liter engine

Fisker expansion
Electric-car maker Fisker Automotive says it plans to establish a new technical center in the Midwest to pave the way for development of its Atlantic model line. The center will bring the automaker closer to key component suppliers and low-emission technical expertise, the company says. Fisker currently sells one model, the $100,000 Karma plug-in hybrid sports car. It's developing the Atlantic coupe (shown), which would sell for around $55,000.

Ford engine
Ford says the 2014 Fiesta will be the first North American vehicle to get the company's new 1-liter, three-cylinder EcoBoost engine (shown). The 1-liter has been sold in the European version of the Focus sedan since March. Ford isn't releasing fuel economy numbers yet, but says the 1-liter Fiesta will be the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid available in the U.S. It should get well over 40 mpg.
