Fusion efficient
The Environmental Protection Agency certified the 2013 Ford Fusion Energi hybrid (shown) at up to 108 MPGe, making in the most fuel-efficient sedan in the U.S. The high mileage could save customers an estimated $6,850 in fuel costs compared with an average new car over a five-year period, Ford says.

Consumers don't realize that the per-mile fueling cost of plug-in vehicles is 70 to 80 percent less expensive than a gas-powered car, according to a study recently released by the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. That lack of knowledge is keeping interest in buying such vehicles low, at 4 percent of survey respondents. Familiarity with the cars would increase acceptance, the study's designer says.
