Honda and clean-tech startup SolarCity are partnering to offer home solar systems at little or no upfront cost. To promote its environmental mission, the automaker will offer financing for $65 million worth of installations to those who buy a car or look into buying Hondas or Acuras on Honda's website.

Toyota and the BMW Group will partner for joint research on green technologies, including development of lightweight composite materials and lithium-air batteries. The batteries are more powerful than lithium-ion batteries and get much of their energy from the oxygen in air. The automakers also aim to complete a fuel-cell vehicle system by 2020.
