The seven-seat midsize SUV designed for the U.S. and Canada made its global debut at the Detroit auto show in January. The diesel-electric hybrid is estimated to get 35 mpg and have a driving range of 661 miles per 18.5-gallon tankful. It can travel 14 miles in all-electric mode. Two electrical sockets -- one for charging the lithium-ion battery and the second for connecting devices such as coolers or camping lights -- allow the SUV to act as an auxiliary electrical generator. When the car is started, round-shaped controls for the lights, climate control and four-wheel-drive system emerge from their flush resting positions in the console.
