Ford first to report in India program; more fuel-efficient cars coming, says GM

Ford green in India
Ford, which has two plants in Chennai, India, is the first automaker to sign on to a voluntary greenhouse-gas reporting program in that country. Reporting carbon dioxide emissions is part of Ford's goal to cut greenhouse gases and reduce emissions at global facilities 30 percent per vehicle by 2025.

GM's sustainability plan
In its recently released sustainability report, General Motors says it plans to have eight 40-mpg cars on the road by 2017, double the number of its four current offerings, including the Chevrolet Volt (shown). GM also plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. 15 percent by 2016 and double its use of biomass energy from landfills and solar energy.
