Fuel-cell car passes 100,000 miles; Ford, college team for battery research

Fuel-cell milestone
A fuel-cell-equipped 2007 Chevrolet Equinox (shown) has passed a milestone for a hydrogen-powered car, topping 100,000 miles. It's part of General Motors' test fleet of 119 fuel-cell cars, which have accumulated nearly 3 million miles since 2007.

Ford and the University of Michigan are opening a new battery research and manufacturing lab to speed the development of batteries for electric and hybrid cars. The center, on the university's campus in Ann Arbor, Mich., will bring together battery makers, car companies and researchers to test new batteries.
