Number of vehicles on the road is on the rise
If it seems like there are more fellow drivers lately, that's because there were 247.9 million cars and light trucks on the road last quarter, the highest number since the third quarter of 2008, says market-research company Experian Automotive. Full-size pickup trucks were the top vehicle segment, at 14.9 percent of total vehicles in operation nationally. Midrange cars captured 11.9 percent of the total number, followed by small economy cars at 9.1 percent. The numbers were reversed in the West, where small economy cars took top place at 12.7 percent, while full-size pickups ranked third at 9.8 percent.

Dubai's newest police SUV part of auto show
With a $2.5 million Bugatti Veyron and a nearly $550,000 Lamborghini Aventador already patrolling the streets, Dubai police have decided to expand their luxury spending spree by adding a custom-made Mercedes Brabus SUV (shown) to its fleet. Despite the vehicle's off-roading capabilities, the Brabus B63-S 700 Widestar will be dispatched to tourist areas. It joined an Aston Martin One-77, Ferrari FF, Bentley Continental GT and two Audi R8s — police cars all painted in the force's green-and-white colors — in a display at the Dubai International Motor Show last week.
